Wi-Fi audit and site survey: measure before you invest.

A network that collapses at peak hour does not need more access points. It needs a diagnosis. We measure real coverage, the spectrum and the wired link — then we cost what has to be corrected.

When to audit

Six symptoms that can be measured.

An audit is not triggered by a hunch. Each of these situations has an identifiable physical cause — and measurement tells you which one.

Throughput collapses as the room fills up
The network holds on coverage but not on capacity. It was sized by floor area rather than by the number of simultaneous devices.
Dead zones appear after a refit
One partition, one metal shelving unit or one relocated glass wall is enough to change propagation. The original plan no longer describes the real building.
The connection drops while walking
A roaming problem: too little overlap between access points, or too much, with devices staying attached far longer than they should.
Wi-Fi slows down although nothing changed
Often a source that does not speak Wi-Fi: a microwave oven, an analogue camera, DECT telephony, failing lighting. Invisible without spectrum analysis.
The access points are new and the problem persists
The bottleneck is upstream: a saturated uplink, insufficient PoE budget, a link negotiated at a degraded rate, a VLAN that never propagated.
A tender asks for figures nobody has
We produce the survey and the sizing that make the specification defensible — and the responses to it comparable.
The site survey

Four surveys, four different questions.

"Site survey" covers four distinct exercises. Confusing them means paying for a measurement that does not answer the question you asked.

Predictive

On plan, before works. Propagation is modelled from geometry and materials in order to size and position. Answers: how many access points, and where?

Passive

On site, listening. We record what the network actually transmits: received power, overlap, signal-to-noise ratio, channels in use. Answers: what is genuinely covered?

03

Active

On site, connected. We measure what a user really gets: throughput, latency, loss, re-association time from one access point to the next. Answers: what is the real experience?

04

Spectral

Beyond Wi-Fi. We look for whatever occupies the band without speaking the protocol. A jammer is invisible to a Wi-Fi analyser and saturates the channel all the same. Answers: what is interfering?

Our method

    Scoping

    Floor plans, real usage, expected density per zone, devices in service, operational constraints and intervention windows.

  2. 02

    Predictive modelling

    Sized by capacity, not by surface area. Material assumptions are documented so that they can be challenged and corrected.

  3. 03

    On-site measurement

    An instrumented walkthrough, passive then active. The model meets the real building — and that is where the gaps show.

  4. 04

    Spectrum and wired link

    A search for non-Wi-Fi interference, then validation of what feeds the access points: link, PoE budget, VLAN, plus copper and fibre certification with instruments — Fluke DSX-8000, CertiFiber Pro, OTDR.

  5. 05

    Report and costed plan

    Coverage maps, a placement plan, and the corrective actions split three ways: what can be tuned, what must be replaced, what has to be added.

01 Coverage maps
Per band and per floor: received power, signal-to-noise ratio, overlap, estimated throughput.
02 Placement plan
Position, height, orientation, model and transmit power for every access point — on the building's own drawings.
03 Spectrum survey
Interference sources located, with their signature and their measured effect on the channels concerned.
04 State of the wired side
Copper and fibre link certification, available PoE budget, uplink throughput per technical room.
05 Costed corrections
Three columns: tune, replace, add. Each with its expected effect, so the trade-offs can be made against a real budget.
